Hi,

we have two TL-WA1201 and are thinking about using those with Multi-SSID, VLAN and AP isolation so that all users of the wireless networks can't communicate with other devices on the networks except the with router.

We would of course like for this feature to be PER SSID, but we're okay with it being on for all SSIDs.

We currently have both devices running in Multi-SSID mode and all SSIDs on VLAN1 because we don't have bought managed switches yet.

The user guide on page 24 specifically shows check boxes for 2.4GHz and 5GHz that read "AP Isolation Feature: [] Enable AP Isolation" and on page 25 it says "AP Isolation Feature: This function allows you to confine and restrict all wireless devices on your network from interacting with each other, but still able to access the Internet. AP isolation is disabled by default."

On the devices themselves those two checkboxes are missing. But under "Wireless"->"Wireless Advanced" when clicking on the (?) in the top right, the AP Isolation Feature is still advertised and explained.

The emulator ( https://emulator.tp-link.com/1201-multissid/index.html ) isn't helping either since that isn't showing any checkboxes at all under "Wireless"->"Wireless Advanced"

So is there some setting we're missing or don't understand or has this feature been disabled?

@BobTheBuilding Hello,

Thank you for your detailed feedback.

TL-WA1201 AP isolation feature is available when device works in Access Point Mode ( Default), while Multi- SSID Mode does not have AP isolation.

Muti-SSID could isolate the wireless clients connected to different SSIDs. Users could create multiple SSIDs with different VLAN IDs,  wireless clients connected to different SSIDs become isolated in different VLAN groups.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1607/

AP Isolation restrict all wireless clients to interact with each other.

Hope this could help ~

@Solla-topee Thank you for your answer.

But is there a reason this isn't enabled when in Multi-SSID mode?

You would think that Multi-SSID mode together with AP Isolation would be one of the major use-cases of this device since one SSID/VLAN could be used for Hotspot functionality of guests that shouldn't interact with each other while the main network is free of restrictions.

@BobTheBuilding  Hello,

Though AP isolation option is disabled by default on most AP or routers,  indeed in some scenarios users want devices connected to  ‘Guest wifi ’ are isolated.

It could be the current design on the Access Point, thank you for your suggestion on multi SSID mode, we will record it first for further evaluation.

Best Regards
