Model: Archer VR600
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 0.2.0 0.9.1 v0074.0 Build 170504 Rel.68210n

Hello,

I've set my home network as following:

optic fiber mod for ISP -> (WAN) Main router: ax1800 (LAN) -> (LAN) vr600

Main router(ax1800):

192.168.0.1

dhcp on

Ip address pool: 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.249

Sec router(vr600)

Operation mode : wireless router mode

ip : 192.168.0.2

dhcp off

The issue is when a device changes its connection from one router to the other, it can't obtain IP and can't connect to the internet. The only solution for this is to restart the sec router(vr600).

I've tried the following and got the same results:

- set networks with same SSID or different SSIDs (for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz)

- set the same channel for each network

- assign a specific IP for the devices by MAC

Is there a configuration I missed? Or is it a known issue for VR600 as AP?

Note:

I know the easy solution is to switch roles between the routers (since ax1800 has AP mode and VR600 needs to be configured manually as I did) but with the location of the routers is fixed and in this setting I can a much better wifi coverage of my home.

Thx for any helpers!

@Guy88

In general the VR600 should be connected to the AX1800 with one of it's LAN ports (but not LAN4) in wireless router operation mode.

Your address scheme is correct - the IP address of the VR600 should be outside DHCP range of AX1800 as it's in your case.

And of course VR600 DHCP server should be OFF - there should be only one DHCP server on the network. See this FAQ - Case 2.

This should work as it's a standard scenario for turning a wireless router into an AP, when there's no AP mode implemented on the device.

If you are using some special configuration (on AX1800 or VR600) like address reservation, access control or IP MAC binding,

then disable these to be sure that they are not the reason for the issue.

@terziyski

I followed the video and verifed what you wrote and the problem still occur(devices can't obtain IP on network change).

I noticed that it takes ~10-15 minutes for them to be able to reconnect (instead of reset of the VR600).

What else can be done?
