Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20210125 rel.37999(4555)

Hi everyone,

I am struggling a bit with my Open VPN Connection. I can connect successfully and reach the router (192.168.120.1) itself but when i try to reach one of the devices connected to the lan port (192.168.120.100) i get a timeout every time. When I use the PPTP VPN Server I can connect and reach the lan devices without issues.

Open  VPN is configured as follows:

I already tried to set the guestnetwork setting to allow guests to see the local network and disabled and enabled the firwall ( desperately trying everything )

I also tried both TCP And UDP

Please note that accessing the Router on 192.168.120.1 always is successful. So the general open vpn connection seems to work fine.

It would be great if someone could point me into the right direction.

Kind Regards

David

Ok I assume that this just does not work then. I will try to return it and get another one.

@spooky3do

Hi, if you can ping the router IP from the outside network, that means the settings about OpenVPN on the router is successful, and the router doesn't block anything now.

It is suggested to check and review the firewall settings on this device connected to the lan port (192.168.120.100), try to turn it off, then check again. If that is a Windows 10 computer, you will find the firewall settings under Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall > Select Turn Windows Firewall off > Select OK to save the changes.

One more note, you can also check if there is any other anti-virus software running on this 192.168.120.100, such as Bitdefender or Killer, which may also block the access.

Hi Kevin,

thanks a lot for your response. I appreciate the time and effort put towards trying to help me.

I will check if i can find any settings that can prevent the connection .. Maybe i can setup a route to the open vpn subnet. in my view that should not be needed though because i expect that an answer to a connect is sent to where it was received from by default.

Furthermore I'd like you to note that the connected system on 192.168.120.100 is a very basic linux system for which i am not aware of any firewall and I can reach it without any issues via the PPTP VPN Server which provides an address within the 192.168.120.0 network though while OpenVPN does not.  (Just using that is not an option though because of security and additionally PPTP does not work for a colleague of mine)

Kind Regards

David
