Model: TX-6610
Hardware Version: V20
Firmware Version:

Hello to all,

first of all, thanks for your help/advice! I am really desperate trying to solve this issue (which should be easy).

My setup is as follows:

The Fiber signal first goes into the TX-6610 GPON Gateway. From there (via Ethernet) it connects to the Router's WAN Port and gets distributed into the local network:

Internet Signal    --(Fiber Cable)-->     TX-6610 Gateway      --(LAN Cable)-->      Router's WAN Port      --(LAN Cable)-->      Backend Server

I am trying to open a few ports for a backend server.

Eventhough I open the ports on the Router, the server can not be reached from outside my local network. Ping Tests fail.

I am wondering:

1. Do I need to change any setting on the TX-6610 Fiber Gateway? Does it have a firewall which blocks any incomming packets? Is that the reason why opening ports on the router doesn't change anyting?

2. The TX-6610 has very few settings. One setting which caught my attention was the "VLAN Mode". Right now it is set to "Control by OLT". Do I need to change it to "Transpareny Mode"? (see screenshot)

I am thankfull for any adivce or explanation.

It's more informative what kind of IP address you've aquired on the Router's WAN port.

If it's public IP address then port-forward on the router is enough - just check if the Backend Server firewall is properly configured.

If it's private IP address then you have a double NAT in your network and that's the reason for the failure.

Contact your ISP and ask them if they can configure TX-6610 in bridge mode, so you can get the public IP address on the Router's WAN port.

Private IP address are defined here.

@terziyski

Thanks you very much for taking a look into it.

What I can say right away: If I take a look at the WAN Adress on the Routers Config Page, it does not match my public IP Adress provided by my DDNS Service (which points to my backend server). This would confirme what you are saying right? My Router does not "see" the public IP Adress but one passed on by the GPON Gateway, right? Thus, I could be having 2 NATs instead of the normal one.

Does this make sense to you?

Does "Transparent Mode" in the TX-6610 Gateway work as a "Bridged Mode", like you were suggesting?

Thanks again

@User5664

If the IP address in question is in these ranges:

10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255
100.64.0.0 - 100.127.255.255

then my hypotesis is right.

TX-6610 is an ISP targeted device and contacting your ISP is the best option to be advised on its bridge mode.

@terziyski

Thanks again.

I just had a look at the Router Status page (behind the TX-6610 Gateway Terminal) and it seems as if you are right. The (external) IP (see figure below) starts with 10.0.0.0...

Does this seem right to you than? Can I regard it as confirmed? That I might be having two NATs:

1. TX-6610 Gateway Terminal

2. Home Router behind TX-6610

Thank you for your help!

@User5664

Could I solve the issue somehow by disabling "NAT" on the router? I wouldn't think so, because that does not solve the issue of the TX-6610 Gateway Terminal not allowing any incomming connection trough the forwarded port on the Home Router behind it?

@User5664

Yes, that's definatelly a double NAT.

If you open in a browser this URL:

https://www.whatsmyip.org/

you'll see your public IP address.

Call your ISP to be advised on the available options.
