Slave Deco no longer connecting to Main Deco, but now connects to the other Slave

Slave Deco no longer connecting to Main Deco, but now connects to the other Slave
We have 3 Deco's:
- Main Deco connected via Ethernet cable to our existing Modem/Router, set in AP Mode.
- 2 Slave Deco's connected Wirelessly to main Main Deco, one has 2 bars signal to the main, the other has 1 bar signal to the main.
The Deco that has 1 bar turned solid red for 2 days, and now has come back blue (online), and is connected to the other Slave Deco, and has 2 bars of signal strength between itself and the other Slave. Devices connect to this Deco work fine, and we've had no issues since this happened.
Whilst I think this is 'normal', is this how the Deco's are designed to work? Do the Slave Deco's connect to the Deco with the strongest WiFi signal regardless if it's to another slave Deco? Can we control which Slave Deco's connect to its other slaves?
