Model: Archer VR1200  
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: v1.7_181221

Please can someone tell me where can i find the firmware of this router?

I wanna flash DD-WRT to it but i could not fix it if it would get bricked. I don't think it would work because i only can find DD-WRT for C5 v1 i don't know if C5v v1 is supporting it

 

Also i found those links but i get 4503 error when i try to install any of them: https://www.tp-link.com/it/support/download/archer-vr1200v/#Firmware  https://www.tp-link.com/it/support/download/archer-vr1200/#Firmware Why can't we find them in english page??

 

Edit: I'm using the root user to unlock firmware update section.

Hello, Archer C5v is a customized version for Service Providers in the local market, which means the firmware of the router might be self-designed by your ISP. Visit the website for more details: https://service-provider.tp-link.com/wifi-router/archer-c5v/.

 

Generally, the support for this customized version will be covered by your ISP, and we suggest you contact your ISP first to check if there is any limitation on the firmware.

The reason you couldn't find FW for this device is that it's targeted to Service Providers (ISPs).

That's why the error when you try to upgrade with the FW from the Italian support portal - probably a different FW region.

If it was given to you by your ISP then they could help you with the current FW version.

Yes there are some limitations on the firmware. I tried to contact to my ISP but they are not really helping with anything :/

 

I just wanna ask: What happens i flash that Italian version with TFTPD? Technically its the same device so it has to work right?

 

And would it get bricked if i flash DD-WRT version of Archer C5 v1? Would it run C5 v1 firmwares or not?

 

All i want is the OpenVPN support so i don't wanna flash DD-WRT just for this. But Italian version can access to tplinkwifi.net and Tether app.

I honestly do not have an answer for that since I am not in software development and don't know whether there are limitations on the software (actually there should be), so I can't give you a clear answer.sad

 

Just to be sure, Archer C5v is not the same model as Archer C5 V1, they are different models, there is neither no word mentioning it supports OpenVPN.
