Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.8

Is there any beta firmware version 1.5 or 1.6 for Deco M4R (US V2)?

I am stuck on 1.1.8 and the stability and performance is very bad.

For anyone else who has this issue and wants to update their Deco M4R (even when the app is not allowing you to update), *Method 2* in this link can be followed:
https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2958/

The latest official firmware can be found here, https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/deco-m4/#Firmware. At the time of posting, it's a big upgrade over the old firmware I was using.

Hope this helps anyone else having the same issue.

@PYellow The current firmware for Deco M4 (US) V2 is 1.5.0 Build 20210511 Rel. 34580.

What happens when you check for updates in the Deco app? (Make sure you have the latest version of the app)

If it still doesn't show "update available", then download & upgrade firmware manually from the tp link US website.

@ImtiazAli

Thanks for the suggestion. I believe 1.1.8 is a custom firmware specifically for my ISP (who provided this unit) that's why I'm not on any supported update path. Before going ahead with a manual update, I just wanted to clarify if M4 and M4R are the same in everything but name, I'm just being cautious as I don't want to accidentally brick the device by doing this in case there's any difference between them.

@PYellow

Hi, since you have the customized firmware, it is suggested that you could have a check with the internet service provider whether they have the new firmware available for you.

@TP-Link

They said they are not maintaining any support for this unit (or updates should come from Deco) so I'm stuck on an old firmware sad. Is there any firmware I can flash (even if its on a different update path)?

@PYellow Yes, M4 & M4R are the same thing.

I noticed that your previous post was about the same thing (you cannot update, customized firmware etc). So why post about it again?

If you wanted to know the difference, say so in the post.

@ImtiazAli

Thanks for the info. Apologies for posting again, but I did ask in the previous post and no one replied. It was a bit disappointing to get the generic "please contact your ISP reply" to be honest as I've otherwise heard good things about TP-Link support on their forums.
