W8968 port fowarding stopped after upgrade

I've been using the W8968 for a while now with the default firmware out of the box. Everything was working fine, except that during a hard reset (power off-an-on) all my port forwarding settings were gone. This was so annoying that I decided to upgrade the firmware to 120926. Now the settings don't disappear, but the port forwarding stopped working. I've tried to connect from the outside to all of the ports that I opened on the router, but it kept on saying the port is closed (even though it appears on the port forwarding list and the status is "Enabled"). The router firewall is also disabled.
I know that there are a lot of posts here regarding this problem, but is there any solution that doesn't require that I go back to the old firmware?
