Hi.

 

I use Pi-hole to intercept DNS resolution on my network.

To make it work, I need to override DNS IP address to the one given by Pi-hole, in my case:

 

IPv4: 192.168.0.2
IPv6: fd65:a96f:f7e2:4166:e443:7e:fa9:f46c

 

I had no issues to change the IPv4 DNS server. I have problem to change DNS address for IPv6. It comes back with an error "Invalid format".

Can someone help me please to convert this IP address to the format acceptable via Archer AX50 please?

Have you tried to set the IPv6 address in its expanded format: fd65:a96f:f7e2:4166:e443:007e:0fa9:f46c

or if that doesn't make any difference to include the routing prefix: fd65:a96f:f7e2:4166:e443:7e:fa9:f46c/64

The IPv6 DNS server you were trying to configure on the AX50 is a local address, the router doesn't allow that. Please try a global IPv6 address that can be used on the internet, which begins with fe80:xxxx.

Thanks! Even though it didn't work because of the reason given by @Kevin_Z, I learned a little bit about IPv6 formats. Thank you.

Thanks @Kevin_Z. In this case, I am going to turn IPv6 off. Any reason why IP must be external? Any plans of changing this rule in the future updates maybe?
