Deco M4R cannot save settings after upgrade to latest firmware (1.5.2 Build 20210916 Rel. 56193)
2021-12-26 21:47:30
Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.5.2 Build 20210916 Rel. 56193

After running the upgrade to the latest firmware, the Lan IP is set to 192.168.0.1 and I cannot change it anymore.

Every time I try to restore my pre-update setting, I get a message that says "Failed to save your settings".

I tried rebooting de deco, log-out, and in again in the app... but nothing did help.

I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Cheers - Omar

@0m4r

Hi, the change of LAN IP address needs to be under the local network and please make sure you are connected to Deco’s wireless network.

 After that, the error message also implied that there might be an IP conflict once you changed the LAN IP back.

So did you have a local Pi-Hole server connected to Deco and you have it set up as the WAN DNS server under IPV4?

If yes, please refer to this link to configure Pi-Hole as the LAN DNS:

 How to use Pi-Hole DNS Server on TP-Link routers?

But if it was not the case, please send an email with the following information to support.forum@tp-link.com:

1. A screenshot of the error message ”Failed to save your settings”.

2. A picture of the Deco App>More>Advanced>IPV4 page

3. A picture of the Deco APP>More>Advanced>LAN IP.

@TP-Link thank you for the quick reply.

Yes, I do have a pi-hole connected and it is already configured as per the instruction at the link you shared.

All used to work regularly just before I downloaded and installed the new firmware.

I cannot imagine the problem is a conflicting IP address, as it all just worked fine before the new software was installed.

The weird thing I have noticed is that I tried to set a different IPv4 value than I used to have, it gave me again the error about "Failed to save your settings" but it actually picked it up. When I open up the screen for the IPv4, it initially shows me 192.168.0.1 but after a moment it switches to the address I have entered.

This does not happen when I try to enter my initial IPv4 value (which I want to restore and be able to use again!).

I have also tried disconnecting pi-hole from the network, but nothing changes.

I will follow up on the e-mail address you provide, I hope this can be solved quickly. It is really annoying.

@0m4r

Hi, thanks a lot.

It is also appreciated if you could include in the email what is LAN IP address you want to use, and what is the tested LAN IP address.

@Sowy unfortunately I do not have a solution.

The @TP-Link support seemed to be very much interested in solving my issue but I have not heard anything back after I sent them all the info they asked me to share.

I ended up updating the IP value I originally used to a different one and reconfigure my set-up with the new one where I needed to.
