Hi,

Model Nos:

TD-W8951ND(IT)

TD-W896ON(IT)

We have two modem Modem/routers that were working fine but stopped working after a thunderstorm. No LEDs light up, they appear dead.

They were located on the top floor and bottom floor of a 5-storey home connected by a CAT-5 Cable. Only one was connected to the external the telephone socket (DSL). They were using the supplied power supplies.

It seems strange that they both stopped working at same time. There wasn't a ighting strike on the house and all other electrically connected devices in the home at the time (multiple TVs, DVD, game console, etc) were unaffected. In fact none of the main electrcal circuit switches tripped.

Are TP-Link modem/rodems known to be ultra sensitive to electrical storms? Or is this a power supply issue? Again seems very strange they both went down at same time.

Thanks in advance

@VillaG

S**t happens sometimes. I've experienced similar issues several times.

If the devices are under waranty you may contact your local support or the ISP (if modems provided by the ISP) to be advised on that.

If they're not, you can measure the power adapters voltage with a multimeter and check if they are alive.

The nominal output voltage/current is written on their bottom sticker. If there's no voltage at all then you can buy a replacements with the same parameters.

If power adapters are alive, my best guess - an electricity induced through the ethernet cable stroke both devices at the same time.

If this was helpful click on the arrow pointing upward to make it blue. If this solves your issue, click the star to make it blue and mark the post as a "Recommended Solution".
