Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.1.4 Build 20211022 rel.59103(4555)

As the title says I am trying to bring the VNP access to my home network to work.

I followed the guides to configure OpenVPN (https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/1544/ Case 1) and DNS Service (https://www.tp-link.com/bg/support/faq/1367/).

Topology is: ISP -> Modem -> Router -> Home Network. I am trying to access it from an Android smartphone.

I tried using OpenVPN Connect and OpenVPN for Android

Also tried different configurations: TCP instead of UDP, changing ports etc.

So far nothing works.

Grateful for any help

Hi,

If your C7 is configured to establish the Internet connection via PPPoE, then verify that the Internet IPv4 address shown on the C7's status webpage is a public IP address, not a private or otherwise reserved IP address.

If your C7's Internet connection type is Dynamic IP or Static IP, then you will have to log into your modem and configure it to forward port 1194 UDP or TCP (whichever you use) to the WAN IP address of the C7. Also verify that the Internet IPv4 address of the modem is a public IP address.

P.S.

Private/reserved IPv4 addresses are those within the following address ranges:

10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
100.64.0.0 - 100.127.255.255

@woozle

Hello and thank you so much for your suggestions.

I contacted my ISP and they helped me solve this. What they did was bridge their modem so that I can do all configuration straight from the Archer C7.

Now in Status I am seeing the external IP which I put in the OpenVPN configuration file and the connection from my phone worked like a charm.

Thanks again for your help!
