Hi, I'm new here.. I don't know if this is even the right community for this thread but I was hoping someone can Answer my question

is it better to buy a router like c80 with A wds rather than a normal repeater

I want to get my friend wifi who is living above me and I'm super confused about which one to choose

  @Allahy3een

Judging by the C80's user manual this router doesn't appear to support WDS or Repeater mode.

Apart from that, a dedicated Wi-Fi repeater might be slightly cheaper, but you will ever be able use it as a repeater only, while if you bought a Wi-Fi router with Repeater/WDS feature, then you could also use it as a Wi-Fi router if your situation ever changes.

Can you tell us the brand and model number of the Wi-Fi router whose Wi-Fi signal you want to repeat?

  @woozle

thanks for replying, I already checked WDS has been added to the c80 but my question is does using WDS is better than using repeater? speed and range wise

  @Allahy3een

Whether it's called "WDS" or "Range Extender" or "Repeater" doesn't matter with regards to range and speed.

And I think a general statement about router used as repeater vs. dedicated repeater can't be made.

What I mean is, it may be that router model "A" provides better range and speed than repeater model "B", but it's also possible that repeater model "C" provides better range and speed than router model "D".

Personally, when it comes to extending/repeating a Wi-Fi network I am more concerned about compatibility issues.

  @Allahy3een

WDS is better because you can use LAN ports to connect whatever you need by cable. I have done this for over 6 years with my customers. WDS bridge and cable connections, but as far as I know, C80 does not have WDS. You need to use a C5W, C6, C8 ou C9.

 @GuilhermeFWX

C80 do support WDS.

@Allahy3een Google it for WDS, I guess there is some speed limitation with WDS mode.

  @Allahy3een

In Brazilian firmware there is no such option.

You can check here:
