Good morning,
I am having trouble with intermittent network connection, primarily on Apple devices. I would like to start by upgrading firmware if required but am having trouble with the download pages of TP-Link.
Can anyone tell ne the latest version and best way to get it. It would be much appreciated.

Archer VR1600v is targeted for ISPs.
If the device has been provided to you by your ISP, you should contact them for an updated FW version.
As for your problem with Apple devices make sure your wireless settings for both bands are:
