Hi, I just bought the tp-link AX5400 wifi6 router to replace my old tp-link AC1600. I'm getting green solid lights for power, wifi 2.5, wifi 5.0, and LAN (pc connected via ethernet to LAN1 port on router). However Im getting orange light for internet. 

I have tried:

  • cycling modem and router
  • using the reset button on both the modem and router
  • swapping the ethernet cable going to the WAN port on the router
  • logging into the router management page and cloning MAC address
  • setting the connection mode to dynamic IP
  • setting the connection mode to PPPoE and putting in the details same as my old AC1600

 

My ISP is TPG through NBN and the router is connected to an NBN modem. The old AC1600 router connects straight away as soon as I connect it to the modem but can't get this new router to connect.

 

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Ok, I see. The VDSL modem of the VR1600v is not used in your case ("DSL" port is not connected) and instead the WAN port is connected via Ethernet cable to the NBN device.

 

When you transferred the settings of the PPPoE connection from the web interface of the VR1600v to the AX73, did you find a corresponding entry field on the AX73 for each of the populated fields on the VR1600v or does the VR1600v have some settings that you don't find a place for to enter on the AX73? (also look at the network settings under the "Advanced" tab on the VR1600v, because in the "Basic" tab not all settings may be shown)

 

For example, some ISPs use things like "VLAN ID".

I just found the corresponding field in the new router and it worked straight away.

Hi,

 

What kind of router is that AC1600? Is that the actual model number printed on the label on the underside of the router?

 

The only AC1600-class routers I find on tp-link.com are the Archer VR600 and VR600v, which have their own VDSL modem built inside.

  @woozle hi thanks for the help. Yes its the Archer VR1600v. this is what the setup looks like on the management app

The physical setup is my nbn modem connected via fibre cable which is connected to the VR1600v via ethernet to WAN port.

 

I'm not sure what a VDSL modem is. Would this mean that i can't use my Archer AX73 with my NBN modem?

  @woozle Ah ok now that you mention it there were a few fields that I couldnt find on the new router. I'm going to note down all of the fields on my AV1600v router and I'll try my best to find rhem all on the AX73 router.

 

I'll let you know when I'm done.
