Assume that a remote Deco is in service and is connected via wifi backhaul.  A backhaul cable is run from the main deco to the remote deco for ethernet-backhaul.   The system is configured for Access-Point Mode

Will the remote Deco automatically recognize the ethernet-backhaul cable and turn off its wifi-backhaul?  Or does the administrator have to explicitly configure the remote deco to recognize the ethernet-backhauls cable and turn off the wifi-backhaul?

Deco node will automatically use Ethernet backhaul if it can. There are no configuration settings available to user. If Deco can't use Ethernet backhaul, for reasons provided in FAQ you mentioned, it'll keep using WiFi backhaul.

When I bought my Deco set and configured it to run in AP mode, I tested that. Unplugged Ethernet cable from Satellite Deco and it switched to WiFi backhaul in less than a minute. Plugged Ethernet cable back and Satellite Deco instantly switched to Ethernet backhaul.

Is said experience with the Deco M4?  If not, which model and firmware?

Deco M5 and M9 Plus, but model name does not matter, because Ethernet backhaul works the same for any Deco model with Ethernet ports.
