Hello eveyone,

i recently got a tplink VX220-G2v from my ISP.

It's NOT 'modified' or a specific model of my ISP, it's genuine and brand new tplink product just pre-loaded with the isp values.

Since the beginning i'm having issues with the 5Ghz band.

I'm not living in a crowded wifi ap's area, just a couple other then me.

At first no devices i own were able to list that band.

Can't say what exactly got it working but i tried and had to disable some features like qos, bandsteering, airfairness etc... (nothing i actually really need).

also set a different ssid name for 2.4/5ghz and set a specific channel and bandwidth for both. (avoiding continuos channels shifts and other stuff)

Now every devices are connected correctly and seems to work correctly EXCEPT my phone, and a friend's phone.

(dhcp problem)

A xiaomi 9T and another xiaomi i forgot the model.

These two after a couple of days won't connect to the 5Ghz, they get stuck in the loop of getting the ip address.

It cycle beteween list the 5ghz band, start the connection, get the ip addess then stop and start again.

It wont work for few days (but 2.4 always work) then it works again for just a couple of days again and so on.

OR i have to restart the router to get it working straight away, but it's really annoying.

they are the only 2 devices with that specific problem, i own other xiaomi devices, and different brands and they work smoothly.

(channels/bandwidth problem)

anyway i see listed only few channels, 36 40 44 48

but if i want to use 40Mhz or 80Mhz bandwidth there should be also 38-46, 42? am I wrong?

anyway, as soon as I select 80Mhz everything stop working.

Laptop can't connect to the 5Ghz band, my phone can't, my tablet can't, anopther phone can't, the chromecast can't....

they don't even list the ssid anymore.

Except few times my laptop connects to it but only if i'm a few inches from the router and even that, the speed is super low, the latency is like 400ms to 2seconds.

No matter the channel i select.

Back to 40Mhz it works perfectly.

once again, it's not a crowded area here.

any suggestion?

Thanks

  @Alexrj

Since VX220-G2v doesn't support DFS channels, if you want to use 80MHz width, set the 5GHz band wireless channel to 36 and test if that works for you.

You can browse through this story to see the 5GHz band channels and available channel width.

@terziyski oh ok I'll test it.

For some reason i thought it's considered the channel/frequency in the middle of the entire bandwidth.

not the starting point.

funny, not so funny, fact. As soon as i select channel 36 and apply the ssid disappear and none of my devices can connect to the 5ghz. selecting channel 44 as previous, it's all back nice and working. (but less speed with 40mhz bandwidth). rebooting the router does nothing. a couple of days ago i had to factory reset because i forgot the password to access the settings page so... I'm pretty sure i didn't mess up with settings either. any new suggestions? thanks

  @Alexrj

You may contact your ISP to confirm if your device is with the latest FW they have - check this thread. The OP has a later FW version on his device.

If your FW is a genuine TP-Link's FW, you could also ask them if the issue you have, has been observed by other users.

As you posted - it's not crowded around you, so your VX220-G2v should work just fine on channel 36 (5GHz band).

@terziyski i personally updated with the latest official firmware on tplink website.

as said in the first message, my isp is using this model and didn't made any mod/change to it.

it's a genuine tplink product, so they don't have to "push" an update over-the-air.

as an example i have the QoS menu, band control and so on. :)

i'll try to contact them.

thanks again

@Alexrj isp saying that 80Mhz can cause interferences, better use 40Mhz...

bad answer.

But still, this device not working properly :/
