Model: Archer VR2800
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I have an Archer VR2800 which is connected to the internet, an ethernet printer plugged into the VR2800 and two laptops wirelessly connected.

I have an old VR1600v

I would like to use the VR1600v as a wireless bridge to the VR2800.

I need to move the ethernet printer to another room and I am unable to run ethernet cable to that room.  My plan is to configure the VR1600v as a wireless bridge, then plug the ethernet printer into the VR1600v

I have tried to follow the various methods described online, all without success.  These steps are quite convoluted and difficult to understand.

Is there a simple set of instructions that I can follow to configure the VR1600v as a wireless bridge to the VR2800?

Yes, there's a guide on how to configure WDS feature for xDSL routers here.

You can use also the VR1600v user guide - here - Appendix: Troubleshooting - T6 How to use the WDS Bridging function to extend my wireless net.

Keep in mind that VR1600v are usually provided by the ISPs with customized FW, which may not include the WDS feature or even included it's for 2.4GHz band only.

Thank you for the guide.

I have looked in the setup on the VR1600v and unfortunately it doesn't have the WDS option.

Is there a firmware update that I can apply to restore WDS functionality to the VR1600v?

Unfortunately not, this model is not officially supported and the only source of a new FW release could be the ISP you've obtained the router from.

Here's an example from TPG community - https://community.tpg.com.au/t5/Modems-and-Devices/Enabling-WDS-on-VR1600V/m-p/4225
