Model: Archer AX23
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.05

Hi there,

I found this FAQ on the website that states the AX1800 supports Open VPN client,

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/3135/

My local shop had the AX1800 (AX23) in stock (I don't know why it has 2 model numbers on the box - hmmm)

Anyway the VPN Client option in the advanced menu does not exist, only the VPN Sever option is present,

Please don't tell me that TP-Link have been stupid enough to call the AX23 - AX1800 when it isn't really an AX1800 as that would be really confusing for their customers and cause issues and waste their time.

Thanks in advance

Len

Your confusion comes from the fact that a router classified as AX1800 could be Archer AX20, Archer AX21 or Archer AX23:

Archer AX20 has a VPN Client implemented.

I think the confusion is the FAQ saying the AX1800 has the VPN client and the box saying AX1800 on it

  @LennyD

Regarding the FAQ you pointed:

I admit that a person could be easily misled by the AX1800 label. Actually there is such model, but for the US market.

If having a VPN Client is the selling point for you, then perhaps you could try to return your AX23 and exchange it for AX20 or AX21 v3 and above (depending on your local market availability).

So returned and bought the Archer AX55 Version 1 which they also had in stock,

I panicked at first, when I logged into the admin portal there was still NO VPN Client option!! :/ Ahhhgggh (This is the only reason I need a new router)

Anyway the portal said the firmware had an update available, and after a restart the option was now there, Phew! :)

So guessing this must be quite a new feature of these routers.
