I see you mentioned that "the second deco automatically weakens the signal until it only connects in about 20cm". Can I have more details about it? Do you mean the devices could only connect to the 2nd Deco M4 when they are within 20cm of the 2nd M4?

And the second Deco M4 could also connect to the main M4 via WiFi, with no need to be connected via Ethernet cable all the time.
