Model: TL-WPA7617 KIT
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi,

trying to set up wifi on extender. SP Router doesn't have WPA, entered the router password on Extender to allow access for wireless devices but doesn't recognise it or the original password on the extender. Have tried resetting using button on the side but no success.

Can't access the device from the TP-Link App either

Help... How can I reset to factory settings and retry?

Cheers

Hi, WPS button is only used to clone wireless settings from the router, it doesn't matter if your router doesn't have a WPS button.

To install the powerline adapter and extender, please pair them first via pair button: How to set up a new secure wireless network using Powerline ac Wi-Fi Kit by Pair button

Then connect the adapter to your router via Ethernet cable, you will be able to get internet access from the powerline extender. The default wireless name and password is printed on the label of the extender itself.

If you would like to customize the wireless settings of the extender, please refer to the following two instructions:

How to customize Powerline ac Extender's wireless settings via web-based management interface

How to customize wireless settings on tpPLC Utility

Hi,

If the router doesn't support WPA, what does it support then?

The TL-WPA7617 KIT apparently supports WEP, WPA and WPA2, which should be sufficient.

Below is a screenshot from the page in the user manual that explains how to reset the devices to factory default settings.

@woozle Thanks for replying, I meant WPS, will try this when I can.

  @BillSt Idiot confession, I misread wifi password on extender - saw a 5 as a 6.

However I still couldn't access settings, kept getting "password incorrect". Reset extender. Managed to update firmware and got access.

Not brave enough to try and replicate existing router name and password yet.

Thanks for help all.
