Deco parental control website block not working
Good afternoon everyone
I am having a weird issue regarding parental controls on the Deco M5. It has been working flawlessly for the last 2 years.
I set YouTube and YouTube Kids as a blocked website on my kids ipads after they've had a couple of hours (so I can limit how much time they have on it) and I noticed yesterday that even after adding youtube and YouTube Kids to the blocked websites, they were able to still go on YouTube on the apps. Adult sites are still being blocked and blocking Internet access also still works.
I added my Samsung S23 Ultra to the same group and I can also still access YouTube and YouTube Kids, but only on the apps. If trying to access it in a browser, it doesn't allow me on it. However I added BBC to the block list, and it allows me on it on my phone and the Ipads.
However a GoogleTV which I've added to the same profile, can't access youtube or youtube kids on a browser or on the apps. But can still access BBC.
I have updated my M5's to the latest firmware (1.7.1).
Taken Youtube and YouTube Kids off the block list and then readded them.
Rebooted the M5's.
Turned the M5 off that we were all connected to and connected to the same one the GoogleTV is connected to.
Recreated the profiles and re-added the Ipads to them.
Taken "Private WiFi address" off in network settings.
Rebooted the Ipads.
All with the same results.
TLDR; Youtube and YouTube Kids are blocked when trying access on Safari / Chrome. But are accessable on the apps. BBC is accessable on Safari / Chrome even though its on the block list.
Anyone got any suggestions as I am now at a loss.

@mmttvv Thanks for the suggestion. However I don't use the guest wifi SSID.
To be honest, I'm looking at getting rid of the Deco's. Me and a couple of friends are having major issues with WiFi speeds on them.
I have 900mb / 800mb on my ISP router speedtest. 700mb /700mb on the Deco speedtest and then 96mb on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra whilst sat directly beside the main Deco M5.
I'm going to try a full factory reset and if that doesn't improve things I'll be using my ISP provided router as it's not a bad router (Mercku M6A) and has everything the Deco's do but is WiFi 6.

I came across this Thread after noticing myself by accident that the Parental Controls no longer block specific websites. My Decos are up to date and I have adjusted and reset the kids profiles but the website blocking is definitely not working (for me anyway). I know if definitely used to work for me and can only assume that it stopped working around the time it did for all the other posters. My bed time setting for WIFI does seem to be working though.
Is there any update from TPLink on a fix for this?

@PinoC The parent control is not working like it was 1 year ago. I blocked everything to test and my kid was still able to send messages and play Roblox pass their time limit. What is going on here? The parent control setting is useless. Looks like a lot of people with the same problem. Please fix this DECO.

@CH_Dave I have the exact same issue I blocked everything bro test and nothing was blocked as set on Deco. It stopped working about 9 months ago. Very frustrating.

Can confirm parental controls are once again not working. Not sure how long it's not been working for but by the looks of the replies on this post. It's been happening a while. I took YT off the kids permanently until I fixed this issue and was going to allow them an hour a day during the holidays. But alas, the issue hasn't been fixed.
Added
youtube.com
youtubei.googleapis.com
youtube-ui.google.com
m.youtube.com
To the block list under "kids" profile.
Added my phone to that profile. Can still get on YouTube and Pornhub even though I have it set as child (0-7 years old) profile.
Added pornhub and YouTube to my new routers blocked list and it has blocked both so it's definitely a Deco issue.
*Edit - It seems to be sooooooo temperamental. I press refresh and both load up. I wait a while and they are now blocked...

@David-TP having the same issue on my x20s, parental controls just stopped working, not sure exactly when. What's the timeline for a fix?

Hi, The original issue reported in this post has been fixed already.
The parental control on the Deco X20_V2_1.2.4 should work well. If not, it would be highly appreciated if you could start a new thread here with more details of how you found out the Parental Control stopped working again.
Best regards.

@David-TP
Hi, thanks. When I check for updates it says my system is currently up-to-date. Are you manually applying firmware updates?

I have a mix of M9s and M5s and NONE of the sites I have set as BLOCKED are working.
As you can see the child can access all the TikTok sites. This is truly concerning for parents who are trying to manage the number of hours their children spend on social media.
Here are a few of the site blocked but can still be accessed.

I've given up on Deco's TBH and have stopped recommending them to my friends. It's still not working, people have been saying it's not been working. But they keep saying it's working 🤷
Looking at upgrading to a unifi dream router as soon as I'm able to.
