Please check some valuable suggestions in the following thread and modify settings specifically to observe if you can make the extender connect to the main router 5G:

TP-Link Extender is not detecting the 5GHz Signal of the Main Router

 

If still no luck, please kindly provide us the model and hardware version of your main router, we will check to see if we can test it.

I have exactly the same problem with the same device. Other devices seen 5g network from the main network, but repeater not
