I picked up the AXE5400 to replace an aging (and faulty?) Netgear Nighthawk.  I have a LAN Brother MFC-7460DN Printer that worked with the previous router.  Installing the new router, I tried to print something today and both my PCs say the printer is offline (Both a win 10 and 11 pc). 

 

The thing that has me stumped is, the router does see the printer, it's in the client list. 

 

Troubleshooting steps I've taken

 

1) Run the windows troubleshooter, rebooting the PC and printer and router several times now

2) Reinstall the brother print drivers

3) Fixing/Reserving the IP Address of the printer and when installing the printer driver pointing the IP Address to the fixed address.

 

It feels like the router is somehow blocking the printer from being seen by other computers.

Just make sure that in these Windows machines, network type is set to Private network, but not a Public Network.

Can you ping the printer IP address from these Windows computers ?

If you can, try disabling HomeShield DDoS protection - check if printing works.

If the issue persists disable HomeShield Malicious Content Filter and Intrusion Prevention System and check if printing works.

This can be done by installing Tether app on your phone. With this app you can configure all HomeShield features and manage your router remotely.

I can't think of any other reason for blocking an IP printer in your LAN.

It appears to want me to download a separate an app? I can't do it from the router settings?

Make sure that the AXE5400 router and Brother MFC-7460DN printer are both connected to the identical network. Verify the router settings to ensure correct DHCP and subnet configurations.

 

On the Windows 10/11 PC:

 

  1. Confirm that the PC is connected to the same network as the router and printer.
  2. Disable any third-party firewalls or security software temporarily.
  3. Check the printer's IP address and try adding it manually as a network printer on the PC.
  4. Update printer drivers on the PC through Device Manager or the official Brother website.
  5. Restart the router, printer, and PC to refresh network connections.
  6. Run the Windows Printer Troubleshooter for further diagnostics.

 

If the issue persists, consider checking the router's documentation or contacting their support for specific troubleshooting steps related to device visibility on the network.
