Model: RE550
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.20 Build 230213 Rel.55420n (6985/8575)

I have set up my RE550 as a wireless extender and all works fine both for wireless and wired clients.I would like to use this device as an access point, running an ethernet cable to more remore point and switching to Access Point mode. All starts well, I log on to the RE550, switch to Access Point Mode and the device reboots as in instructions. I then plug in an ethernet cable to the router and RE550. From then on I get stuck, I cannot  log on either using the Tether App or via the IP address on a wired browser. I can connect via my phone but get a 'no internet' warning and after several seconds the phone switches back to the router wireless connection.

Any idea what to check, where am I going wrong?

Thanks.

Use a web browser on a laptop for configuring RE550.

The default IP address of the RE is 192.168.0.254. If your router LAN is in another subnet use the http://tplinkrepeater.net while connected to the RE550 wireless network.

Anther way to see the RE550 IP address is to check in your main router DHCP client table. Here's a guide on how to configure the RE in AP mode.

@terziyski OK, thanks for reply.

I changed mode to Access Point and connected a lan cable to my laptop after turning of the laptops connection. I could then log on to RE550 via 192.168.0.254 as you sugested. I then, after logging off from the RE550, connected the lan cable from the laptop to my router as described in Sec 6.2 of the RE550 User Manual to transform the wired network to a Wireless one. Whilst I could connect the laptop to the RE550 wireless network, there was no connection from the RE550 to the internet.

I guess I'm missing something but can't understand what. Why does the RE550 not have a connection to the internet via the lan cable?

Just a thought, the router Start Adddress is 192.168.1.3 and End is 192.168.1.253 (not that I understand much of this). Does this prevent the RE550 connecting with having a default IP of 192.168.0.254?

Regards

Yes, that would be a problem since these are different subnets.

Change the RE550 IP address to 192.168.1.254 and make sure that its DHCP server is set to Auto or OFF.
