Model: RE330
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.0.23 Build 230418 Rel.60395n

Hello TP-Link community,

currently a bit puzzled why my Google Nest doorbell won't connect/find my 5Ghz WiFi.

Does someone have a clue if it has sth. to do with missing "ac" - support on the doorbell?

Here are my specs:

Phone

Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4G+5GHz, VHT80

Accesspoint (RE330)

Wireless Standards :

EEE 802.11a/n/ac 5GHz

IEEE 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz

Frequency:

2.4GHz & 5GHz(11ac)

Doorbell

802.11a/b/g/n (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz)

Greetings,

Eetu

Hi,

The RE330 is backward compatible with the wireless standard 802.11n, as indicated in the specifications by "IEEE 802.11a/n/ac". The RE330 also has no "802.11ac-only" setting like some other devices might have, hence devices supporting 802.11n should always be able to connect to it.

When you try to add the doorbell to Google's app on your phone, do you see the name of your 5 GHz Wi-Fi network listed when the app searches for nearby networks? If yes, then does it ask for the Wi-Fi password when you select that network?

The Nest Doorbell you have is the "US" version, right?

  @woozle

Thx for clarifying that my doorbell should theoretically be able to connect to my accesspoint. Got that out of the way!

Last time I had my two WiFis unhidden, the doorbell just picked up the 2.4Ghz Wifi(?).

Tomorrow morning I will try again finding the 5Ghz Wifi. By now I've reinstalled the Google Home app a few times & have done a factory reset of the doorbell, maybe that has made a difference somehow. Will report then.

Naw, I have a European version. Are you asking because someone on reddit said that 5Ghz is disabled here? At least Customer Service denies that.

Not on reddit, Google's very own website states that only 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is supported in the "Rest of world".

Ok, so there is contrary information being provided by Google.

Anyway, I guess you probably also have a dual-band wireless router at your home, beside the RE330. I suggest you remove the Doorbell from your door (which should be easy as per Google's instructional video), take it close to your wireless router and then try to add it to the 5 GHz network of the router. That should confirm whether the Doorbell supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

Done what you've proposed. Doorbell keeps picking 2.4Ghz no matter how close to the router, while all other close clients (phones) are picking up 5Ghz. Also tried a US-adress, didn't help.

What a pity, such a pretty doorbell. Packing this whole thing back together & preparing to sent it back.

Thx for your efforts, will see what customer service says.
