Model: RE300   Archer C80
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.0.23

So I just bought an RE300 dual band mesh extender to replace my old N300.

Unfortunately despite checking my C7 router supported one mesh it turned out I needed v5 hardware & mine was v4 :(

No problem, it was 6 years old & C80 on sale @ Amazon so set that up & slightly better speeds but the mesh network now worked.

I noticed the C80 had an IoT network setting so activated that & started setting up various switches etc. Except when I got to the end of the house with the new extender the IoT network was gone!

It appears that for some reason the extender's not replicating the IoT network even after restarting both the extender & the router. Pretty annoying as I then had to reset the devices I'd already added, as there's not much point having only some devices on a separate IoT network :(

Am I missing something obvious or will a mesh network only work for one network ID?

  @nfrt

Hi,

TP-Link's OneMesh/EasyMesh extenders do not extend the IoT and Guest networks. (At least not right now. Whether this might be added in a future firmware update nobody knows.)

  @woozle ah it's not me then thx.

Mesh doesn't even work with a guest network? Seems a bit of an obvious flaw when their website says how it "provides uninterrupted WiFi throughout your home".

Don't understand why the IoT & guest options aren't disabled when using mesh, or at least a note on the admin page saying that won't work :(

i have the same problem
and i don't understand what's the point of have a separate IOT network, that CANT be replicated by mesh

i think i'll have to revert all my iot devices to the basic ssid

  @nfrt Tp-Link developers please update the firmware of onemesh extenders and allow IoT and guest networks

  @nfrt another vote for me. Just created this setup for exactly this reason, and now disappointed it doesn't work.

surprise Extending 1/3 of the networks is unfortunate. I bought those Archer x23 specifically to have a better signal with cameras since support was saying the signal was slow. It is kind of bad to downgrade security and have the camera + guest on the same network as my professional office.

  @Plum117

Agreed I did the same - its disappointing that this isnt supported and there really isnt a reason it can't be.

@nfrt  Me too. I just added AX1800 + RE315 for the sole reason that Xfinity XB7 doesn't offer firewalled IOT. Imagine my surprise when my garage thermostat couldn't detect my shiny new IOT network. Implementing this complicated and expensive system has failed to solve the one problem for which I purchased it.

I do not see any way that I could have figured this out from the advertising prior to purchase.

Please give us a firmware update, or at least confirm that one is coming, so that I don't have to suffer the further inconvenience (and cost to TP-Link) of returning this setup.

it is really a dealbraker feature. The mesh network on mercusys devices supports that.
