I have just connected an M4 set up that looks ok. Does one of the three units have to be connected to the WiFi router through an Ethernet cable?

Hi, welcome to the community.

only the main Deco is required for an Ethernet connection. For the satellite units, it can be either Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
