Getting modem/router to act purely as wirlessAP
Right I will tell you my current setup and what I would like to achieve.
Have an outdoor 4G router, Zyxel LTE7490-M904, feeding into basic 5 port ethernet switch, not a smart switch.
What I would like is a wifi signal as well as just hardwired through the switch. So thought I would utilise an old TP Link router namely the VR900
As far as I can see to do so according to the manual it states the following. in section 4.5
Connect the VR900 via Lan4 and connect to an ethernet signal. Which I have done via the 5 port switch. Problem is I cannot access the VR900
Both 192.168.1.1 and tplinkmodem.net fail to give me a connection to the VR900
Now knowing very little about networking I hoped I might be able to get access to the router.
Am I missing something obvious?

What you're describing to use VR900 LAN4 port as WAN port is when teh VR900 is in wireless router mode.
If you want to configure VR900 as wireless AP use this guide.

Hi tabnks for your message
I tried as you suggested but hot a couple of stumbling blocks.
1 When it is saying example if the root router ip address is 198.168.1.1 with range of 1.2 to 1.255 use 1.101
Why 101 ? even in the screen below it shows it as 1.10 not 1,101
I have messed about with various values at the end of which saving the changes I cannot log in to the VR900
Am I missing something obvious.

I admit that's a little confusing but lets say that your main router has LAN IP address 192.168.1.1 with DHCP range of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.100.
Use 192.168.1.101 for VR900 LAN IP address - thus VR900 will be outside your main router DHCP range and you can always access its WebGUI via http://192.168.1.101.
Other than that follow the guide for the rest of VR900 settings.

Hi
Once again thanks and sorry for the typing errors its a new keyboard that is really too small.
To clarify things, hopefully, I have attached a screen shot of my setup.
Must say I am confused that cellular info a nd LAN have ip address.
As you can see the LAN one is 192.168.1.2 I changed it to that from 192.168.1.1 for some reason that now escapes me
think was something about address clashing.
What I cannot understand is why if I alter the ip address of the VR900 I cannot access it when putting that ip address in.

I can't see any attachment in your post - you may edit your post if necessary.
Assuming that your Zyxel LTE7490-M904 LAN IP address is 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0
Pay attention that VR900 should be in DSL modem router mode when doing this configuration:
VR900 LAN port settings:
After this change VR900 should probably restart itself.
Connect VR900 LAN1 port to the switch. You should be able to access its WebGUI at http://192.168.1.101.
Both devices (Zyxel LTE7490-M904 and VR900) should be in the same LAN subnet 192168.1.0/24 to be able to configure this setup.

It is like you've followed the manual, but there might be a configuration issue. Have you tried resetting the VR900 to factory settings repair everything and then attempting to access it again.

Try connecting it directly to your computer, reset it, and determine county configure it in AP mode before reconnecting it to your network. This should help you access it and get the Wi-Fi working.
