Hello. I was trying to configure a local DNS server. My ipv4 setup works without any issues, but when I changed my ipv6 dns server, I was met with an error that said invalid format even though the format was correct. Please help. Thank you.

Hi,

Could you perhaps post a screenshot that shows how you are trying to configure a custom IPv6 DNS server?

Unfortunately your picture doesn't reveal where exactly that input field is, but I suspect you might be trying to enter a local IPv6 address (fe80::) into the configuration section of the WAN interface.

Does your DNS server perhaps have a second IPv6 address, a global address? (i.e. one that starts with 2xxx:)

@woozle Unfortunately, a global address won't work since it will keep changing frequently. Does TP-Link not allow link-local addresses to be used as the IPV6 DNS server?

Obviously, in the "IPv6 Internet" section the DNS server fields will not accept a link-local address and in the "IPv6 LAN" section there are no provisions for customizing the Router Advertisements, at least not on the TP-Link router models that I own.

@woozle Well, that is how my DNS is configured for IPV4. So, I assumed it would be the same for IPV6.

Although IPv6 has been around for quite some time, it is still not thoroughly implemented in many routers on the market. Of the numerous routers I own only a single one supports what you are trying to do.

But maybe someone from TP-Link support can comment on this. @Marvin_S
