Replacing VR1600v & TL-WR802N With Single Device
We have an NBN connection to our small office (with service provider iiNet and their supplier Archer VR1600v modem / router).
We make use of several of the 4 x wired Ethernet ports on the VR1600v plus wireless capabilities (for some wireless Windows clients and mobile devices from time to time) for both network and internet connectivity.
As the number of simultaneous connected users and traffic levels have significantly reduced, we trialed replacing the NBN connection with tethering our mobile phone wirelessly to the VR1600v.
We were able to achieve this with the help of a TL-WR802N Wireless Nanorouter. The mobile phone tethers to the TL-WR802N and the wired Ethernet port of the TL-WR802N is connected to the WAN port of the VR1600v (with some setting changes in the VR1600v to make it all work).
It appears to be working well enough.
Q. Is there a further simplification of this where we can replace both the Archer VR1600v and TL-WR802N with a single device to achieve all of :
. 4 x wired Ethernet ports (as existing)
. wireless connectivity for wireless Windows clients and some mobile devices (as existing)
. wireless tethering of mobile hotspot to router for shared internet connectivity (new)
Q. If so, what is the additional feature called that we are looking for in the new router for the wireless tethering feature ?
