I bought a wifi repeater a few days ago, TL-WPA7617 to be exact and it has been a struggle to get it to work. Whenever I try to link it with my router using the router's wps button, it just completely ceases working and it's own wifi connections dissappear. When I tried it with the tether app, it kept saying router was too far away even though it was not even a meter away and although it had a connection it did not have internet. When I tried just connecting it to the router with an ethernet cable it had both a connection and internet. When this was being sold to me I was told it functions by itself and doesn't need anything else but is that true?

Hi

I suspect you bought the wrong product. Based on your description, it seems that what you want to buy more is a range extender, which can connect to the router wirelessly and can be set up by Tether APP and WPS:
https://www.tp-link.com/home-networking/range-extender/

However, TL-WPA7617 is a powerline adapter and is generally used in sets and requires the same electrical circuit. Generally, a powerline adapter will be directly connected to the router via wire, and the other powerline extender will extend the router's Wi-Fi signal through powerline.

  @Joseph-TP

I believe that this is incorrect information.  I have the same EXTENDER and it was working fine (connecting to internet, extending signal) until a month ago.  I've tried pairing it, cloning it (both wi-fi and ethernet) with the router and nothing is working.  I've gone through every support step and still, I cannot get it to accept the signal from my router.

Please advise.

Stephanie
