X50 5G router with unlimited EE sim card - No connection to Internet
Hi!
I have just bought an X50 5G device and attempting to use it with a prepaid EE 5G unlimited sim.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D79HMR11?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
I have tried the new EE 5G using my mobile phone and it works well (>70 mbps).
However, I am stuggling to get it to work through the device.
I am able to locate the device on the Deco app and connect to it. However the signal turns red as soon as it connects. I have gone into Internet option on the app and played around with the settings based on what I have read online but have not managed to get it to work. I have attached a photo of my current settings.
It does not let me switch to 4G and reverts to 5G (preferred) after an error message saying that the settings failed to save.
Any help would be much appreciated!

@AcerSwift have you checked with EE to see if you're allowed to use that SIM in a gateway device?

Thank you for your reply. No I haven't as yet because this is a scancom sim card which says it is a universal product and perfect for wifi routers, which is why I'm confused. I reached out to the Scancom support team.
Is tp-Link known for having some devices that don't work with EE? It is my first time using a router like this.
I purchased the below:

@AcerSwift This might help
https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/665466
Also many other buyers have had the same experience as you

And not only with the X50-5G, so I'm afraid it may be an issue with Scancom themselves. It's probably a good idea to always look at the 1-star reviews before buying anything online, because these tend to be the most honest ones.

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.
I noticed the current firmware is 1.1.0_build_20230804 and the latest firmware is 1.1.7 now.
please try to local-upgrade the firmware to the latest version first:
Deco X50-5G(EU)_V1_1.1.7 Build 20240809
How to update the firmware via web UI:
How to Update the Firmware of Deco
After that, if it doesn't help, please refer to the following suggestions:
1. Manually create an APN profile for EE SIM-https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/fix-problem/Managing-APN-settings
2. Please send a copy of the web UI system log to support.forum@tp-link.com if the manual APN profile fails to get internet access as well(please add forum ID#705196 in the email).
Wait for your reply and best regards.

Dear David,
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately still no luck after upgrading the firmware and checking the apn details against the ee website.
As requested, I have sent my logs to the support email address provided.
Look forward to hearing back, and thanks once again for your help with this.
Kind regards

Hi, Thank you very much for the update.
When I checked your TP-Link, I noticed the Deco X50-5G is online now. Did you insert a different SIM card or change some settings that have made EE SIM start working with Deco X50-5G?
Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hello,
I downloaded the newest firmware which then let me update settings on the app. If you haven't updated the firmware, that's what I would do first of all. For example, the local phone number appeared after I updated the firmware.
I then used the below profile:
Profile name: ee
PDP Type: IP v4 & IPv6
APN: everywhere
Usename: eesecure
Password: secure
Authentication type: None
One that is updated, I switched the Network Mode to 4G only.

Hi David, thank you for that. The device is now working after I downloaded the latest firmware and rebooted it.
