Hi to all.

After trying everything with the X50-5G I see that if you set the "band" option to manual and you select which bands you wish exclusively to use, the X50-5G still connects to the bands that it prefers, even if these bands are not in the selected ones.

For example. I want my X50-5G to connect only to the bands N78, b1, b3, b20. So I select these bands. After a while I see that the X50-5g is connected to band N1 or N28.

The only way for it to stay only in band n78 is to set it in the "cell lock".

The problem is that this is not ideal. In order to set band n78 to cell lock you also need to set the respective PCI.

I have found that band N78 works better in pci 73 only in the evening, but works better in pci 406 during noon.

So I would like to set the X50-5g to lock to band N78 but the PCI to be automatic and change autoimatically during the day according to the best reception and signal.

This should have been done when I select N78 in the "band" option, but as explained, it does not work.

Is this a bug?

Is there a solution to that?

Can I cell lock band N78 and set pci to "auto" somehow?

Many thanks!

P.S.: One thing to note, is that from my local website of TpLink (Greece) the highest available firmware for my X50-5g is firmware build 1.1.3.
But I have installed firmware v1.1.7 (which is only found in the international website) as this was suggested in my Deco app.
Is this problem caused because I don't use the suggested firmware from the local website? Do I need to revert to 1.1.3 ?

  @madvinegar

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

I don't think it is related to the 1.1.7 firmware. Sometimes it takes longer for local web support to upload the latest firmware to the official website. But 1.1.7 could revert to the 1.1.3 version directly via the web interface.-How to Downgrade Deco

Would there be a great difference in the network speed when Deco X50-5G is on N78 vs N1/N28? and N78 on PCI 73 vs PCI 406?

By the way, May I know who your SIM carrier is?

Have you ever tried to put this SIM card into the mobile phone to confirm its working band and network speed?

Thanks a lot and best regards.

  @David-TP

Thank you for your reply.

My sim carrier is Cosmote (Greece).

I had a ZTE 5G router before I got the X50-5G, using this same SIM card and I could select and lock the bands (N78, B1, B3, B20) without any problem. I opted to get the X50-5G because I have also 2 x60 decos and wanted to create a wireless mess.

The thing is, why to have such an option in X50-5G to select and lock specific bands, but same not working? Why when I select only bands N78, B1, B3, B20, after a while the X50-5G connects to N28 or N1 ?

And yes, unfortunately there is significant speed difference between N78 and N1/28.

Also, if I lock the cell to N78 with PCI 406, it works during the evening but I lose signal during the morning when it should set itself to PCI 73 as this pci works better during that time.

Do you know if devs plan to release any updated firmware ironing out these bugs? The X50-5G is quite expensive so I really want for it to work like it should.

Again many thanks for your assistance.

@David-TP

Please see the attached screenshots to understand.

I have selected bands N78, B1, B3, B20.

After a while the router connected to band N1 that I have specifically not selected.

@David-TP

I downgraded to firmware 1.1.3 but I get the same problem. See the screenshot. I specifically selected N78 but the router is connected to N1. So I upgraded again to 1.1.7. Hope this gets fixed.

Mr David do you know if the devs look into this matter (proper Band Lock) and plan to issue an updated firmware with a fix?

Many thanks.

Any news on this? Do devs plan to issue a firmware update that will properly lock the selected bands and only connect to the selected bands (and not connect to the non selected bands).

  Please let us know.   🙏

  Many thanks.

  @madvinegar

Hi, Thank you very much for the time and patience.

I'm afraid there hasn't been any updated news yet.

The available bands listed under "Band>Manual" and the Cell Lock bands are the preferred bands used by Deco X50-5G when it tried to attach the SIM Carrier cellular service. But it is not a mandatory request and it will switch to other supported bands to access the internet first if the SIM Carrier refuses the attaching request.  In other words, maintaining internet access is the main priority for Deco X50-5G. If the condition permits, it will prefer to use the selected bands.

So I think the feature logic itself has no issue. The concern lies in why the SIM carrier refused the attaching request when the selected band is available for both the Deco and Cell tower following frequency scanning. The root cause for the failure remains specific and unique to each SIM carrier.

Thanks again and best regards.

  @David-TP

Thank you for your reply.

I would just like to clarify a few points. There is nothing wrong with my X50-5G and nothing wrong with my sim and carrier. I am just asking from the devs to add an option in the settings to properly lock the bands I select, as right now I am not satisfied with how the router is set to operate.

I understand that the priority of the X50-5G is to maintain a connection. However, I would like this to be the case when the owner/admin/me sets it in "Auto".

When I, as the owner and admin, select the bands that I know work better for my use case, I would expect the router to keep them and not change to what it thinks is best.

For example, the devs have given to us this option with "cell lock". When I "cell lock" a band, the router sticks to it even if this band and PCI is not ideal, even if that means that no internet will come from this band/PCI. So in this case, it is not the priority of the router to maintain internet connection. I am just asking from the devs to provide also an option for "band lock".

The "preferred band" option is not enough because the router sets its own priorities when it thinks it's best.

There is no any problem with the sim card or my carrier and I know this because I was using the exact same sim, with the same carrier, at the exact same spot in a ZTE MC801A 5G router. I had the option to properly band lock (specifically band N78) and it kept connected to this band even if the signal was low. It did not change to the preferred band it thought was best. So I know that this can be done and is probably easy for the very experienced TpLink devs to add it.

  We, as owners and admins of the router, know best what is better for our use, and this is why I am asking to add this option. If someone is not as experienced as some of us and would just like to insert the sim card and get internet connection he can leave the settings in auto. "Preferred band" is almost the same as "auto" if the router would do as it pleases in the end.

So, you can ask the devs to provide 3 options when not in auto mode:

- Preferred Band

- Band Lock

- Cell lock

  Is that possible please? I am having a very hard time, always checking the settings to see if I am still connected to band N78, and half the times I find out that the router has changed to N1 or N28 by itself, as it thought this was better. And this reduces my speeds.

  I don't want to change back to the ZTE router as I have set up a very nice Mesh system with the x50-5G and two X60s.

Please ask devs to consider this. Please.
