Model: Archer VR400
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.3.0 0.9.1 v00a1.0 Build 210707 Rel.32468n

Hello

I establish the home network long time ago, and I was not familiar with the concepts but I mangage to do it.

At home I have DVR with analog cameras atthached to it, using coax cables.

In order to "see" my DVR from the outside world, I subscribe to some ddns service but I don't remember what it was.

In my advance setting of the router I see that the address is something in  XXXX dot tplinkdns dot com
I don't remember where I definded that XXXX :-(

I thought it is in tplinkcloud.com but when I login to there, I don't see a thing. it is empty.

I tried dyndns dot com but my password doesn't work, and I an not sure that it was there.

Can anybody tell me, when you set a URL in the router, in the advanced->ddns section, where do you define the server for it ???

BTW:
when I switched from hardware version V2 to V3, there was a bug that the DDNS didn't work. I could see the DVR by typing the IP. not by typing the XXXX link
(maybe it was also related to the DECO that attached to my router, one on each floor)

I got special firmware from tplink support, to fix this.

Today I logged in to the router and upgraded to version 1.5.0 0.9.1 v00a1.0 Build 220321 Rel.60385n, but I encountered the same issue. can't see my DVR cameras. So I seach on my email, found the file and went back to firmware 1.3.0 0.9.1.
Any hints on that, too ?
I can't update my firmware anymore ?

Thanks a lot to all

To use TP-LInk DDNS service you should login your DSL router with your TP-Link ID - details (Step 4).

If this was helpful click once on the arrow pointing upward. If this solves your issue, click once the star to mark it as a "Recommended Solution".

Hi @terziyski As I wrote in original message, In my advance setting of the router I see that the address is something in XXXX.tplinkdns.com

XXXX is the "name" I choose.

As far as I understand, the router is the client, and when I set this XXXX in the advance setting->ddns, I need also to "register" this XXXX address in some server or serive.

Isn't it like this ?

some server that when I surf, from the outside world to XXXX.tplinkdns.com, it will resolve it to the correct IP address.

If the mechanism works like this, I don't remember where I definded the XXXX.

In what server :-(

Read the guide that I posted carefuly. In Step 4 it is said that you should login your DSL modem with your TP-LInk ID (these are your credentials to login the community).

Once you've loged in the modem WebGUI go to advanced setting->ddns and check your registered name or register a new one.

If this was helpful click once on the arrow pointing upward. If this solves your issue, click once the star to mark it as a "Recommended Solution".

Hi  @terziyski

Thanks a lot.

First, is the mechanism should work as I described in previous message ?

Second, I read the instructions again, but something was not clear so I tried again to go to 192.168.1.1 and saw that in the login screen there is actually option to login with "local" account or with TP-Link ID.

I pressed on it but the browser keep telling me that the connection could not establish since aps1-eweb.tplinkcloud.com
Does it try to take me to tplinkcloud.com ?

Cause, as I wrote in the original message, I logged in to this web site, via simple surf on the browser and found nothing.

I logged in with the "local" account and went to advance setting->ddns and saw that above the domain name that I choose, there is service provider.

In my case it is TP-Link

So there is one domain name that I defined (in 2017, it sais)

Where I define another one ?
Only by login with TP-Link ID ?

Why I can't login with TP-Link ID ?

Why I can't simply login to tplinkcloud.com and defined a new URL (domain name) there ?

Thanks a lot again

You can define a new one in the same menu but when logged in with the TP-Link ID.

The reason you can't login with TP-Link ID could be either due to a cloud maintanance or an outdated firmware of the modem.

Update your modem FW with the latest  one from here and try to login again with your TP-Link ID so you can register a new DDNS name.

  @terziyski

I have V3 hardware, but the latest 1.5 version has a bug in it, so 3 years ago I got 1.3 version with a patch.
I can't upgrade cause than the bug will happen again. (tried to upgrade yesterday, by mistake)

The bug is with loopback (or something)
I have deco connected to my router, and the computer and the DVR are connected to the deco.
so when the computer (or phones) try to go to the domain name URL, it doesn't go out and than go back in, it just do a loopback and can't resolve the dns to IP

1) Any other ideas how to login with TP-Link ID ?
2) I asked if I can add domain name if I login to tplinkdns.con directly. can I  ?
3) so the concept I descibe is not true ??  there is no server out there the solve the URL to IP ?

Thanks

  @omazza

The problem you've described is called hairpinning or NAT loopback.

Most probably you can't login directly into tplinkdns.com.

Actually I'm using no-ip service and I'm quite happy with it.

Hi  @terziyski

Thanks for the help.

I can login to https://www.tplinkcloud.com/index.php
I can't connect to  tplinkdns.com

(is there really a web site with this URL ?)

Probably I can connect to this site from a computer outside my home (not connected to my router) and manage my acount.
Need to check it.

Thanks for your recomendation on no-ip.
