Model: Archer BE550
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.11 Build 20240807 rel.25691(4555)

I have just bought this router to replace my Virgin Media Hub 5 and to also compliment my S23 Ultra which has Wifi 6E support and yet the signal is worse on Wifi 6 5ghz and 6ghz compared to the Virgin hub and even the link speeds are absysmal especially the RX rate.

on the Virgin Hub 5 I get a consistent 1200 TX and 1200 RX and yet with this BE 550 I get a decent TX Rate of anything between 1900 to 2401mbits but the RX rate is only around 500-900mbits at best when I am literally 3 feet away from the router whether on WiFi 6 or 6E 5ghz and 6ghz absoloutely dreadful for a so called blazingly fast WiFi 7 router.

Also it seems to be all over the place and jumping around even in the same small room, I don't have such issues with the Virgin hub.

For reference I have TWT Disabled

OFDMA/MU-MIMO Disabled

Smart Connect Enabled

2.4/5ghz Enabled

Transmit Power High

On 6ghz Settings as follows...

Transmit Power High

PSC Enabled with Auto Channel

MLO Disabled

Also am I missing something ragarding 2.4ghz? I have no uuse for this frequency whatsoever and yet I cannot disable it as it disables 5ghz as well, Why is 2.4ghz tied to 5ghz?

Is there anything obvious wrong with these settings for this router or do I need to send it back as it is not performing anywhere near what I expected compared to a freebie that my ISP sent me

If you disable Smart Connect feature you can control the radio frequencies separately and set them on or off.

If this was helpful click once on the arrow pointing upward. If this solves your issue, click once the star to mark it as a "Recommended Solution".

Thanks, I tried that initially but there seemed to be some random bug where it wouldn't save the option when I pressed save the first time, I tried it again and now it seems to be working and I have disabled 2.4ghz.

However I am still getting the issue with the RX transmit link speed jumping all over the place so I am still not sure if there is something wrong with this router yet.

Hi, thanks for posting question here.
It is suggested to turn on TWT, OFDMA+MU-MIMO.
May I confirm where the screenshot came from? A Tool to check the internet quality? Please share what it is.

For the related slow speed issue, it is suggested to follow this guide to troubleshoot and share here.

You may also contact local support for more advice.

Hi there,

I enabled both those options as suggested but it hasn't made any difference to my signal or speeds from what I can see.

The screenshot is from Samsung's WiFi connectivity labs in intelligent WiFi.

For example with my old Virgin Hub 5 router connected to WiFi 6 at 5ghz I would get full signal all over the house and even just outside the back door in the garden but with this router I only get 2 or 3 signal bars at best and speeds suffer because of that.

Is there a V2 of this router that I am unaware of that has better signal as I still in the return window, I really did not expect to have a worse signal than a basic Virgin media router in the exactly the same spot.

Hi, thanks for your update~
If TWT, OFDMA+MU-MIMO does not affect the result, you may disable them.
For the speed you feedback, we recommend following the troubleshooting guide to check actual internet speed via speedtest.net. I am afraid the related speed you shared before does not mean much because that does not stand for the real data when clients are running.
For the signal, may I confirm how did you place the BE550? Horizontal or vertical?

Hi,

I have already followed that guide with no difference in signal, The router is placed Vertically and the signal is definitely weaker than the standard free Virgin Hub 5 at the same 5ghz frequency, I drop 2 signal lines in the same places as the Virgin Hub gives me full signal and so speed it suffering with my 1gb connection, It's dropping to 100mbits compared to almost 6-900mbits I get with the Virgin hub 5.

Also I noticed today unless I am going insane this router does not support triband MLO, I have a Wifi 7 client and it is only seeing 5 ghz and 6ghz also 2.4ghz does not even seem to exist in the MLO network settings so I shall be returning this router as right now I do not see any benefit of this WiFi 7 router when my signal is worse and it is not "True Tri Band WiFi 7" Extremely disappointing when the adverts and the box says Tri Band Multiband when in fact it is not at all.
