Permissions control for users on shared devices

Permissions control for users on shared devices

In this community site, I saw some people request for allowing shared users of a device to do something on shared device. For example, there are people who submitted a feature request to allow other users of shared camera to enable or disable privacy mode. However, not everyone want these features. There may be someone who want to allow only some users to control privacy mode, while other users only allowed to view live stream and playback.

So, I have a suggestion. Allow device owners to control permissions for users who the owner shared the device to. This mean allow device owner to control what other users can do with the shared device.

This is just like system administrators of a company control other employees' permissions, control what the other employees can do with the company's systems.

For Tapo devices, I give some examples here:

For shared Tapo camera, allow device owner to control:

1. Which users can view live stream.

2. Which users can play or download recorded videos.

3. Which users can control the pan and tilt.

4. Which users can enable the privacy mode.

5. Which users can disable the privacy mode.

6. Which users can turn on the alarm.

7. Which users can turn off the alarm.

For smart plugs with power monitoring, allow device owner to set:

1. Which users can turn on the smart plug.

2. Which users can turn off the smart plug.

3. Which users can view the energy usage.

The above are just few examples. Allow device owners to control what other users can do to shared devices.
