Model: HS300
Hardware Version: V20
Firmware Version:

I have the Kasa smart power strip which suddenly wouldn't show up on my tapo or Kasa account. I am connected to a public WiFi as I am living in student accomodation, but when I arrived here 3 months ago my smart strip maintained connection and worked perfectly fine until now. I am aware that most tp link/Kada products don't work with public WiFi, but why was it working all along until now?

Kasa device cannot connect to an open WiFi or a portal WiFi that requires additional authentication. Generally, a network device drops from WiFi when the signal is very weak, or being disconnected due to some new settings on the WiFi network.

Based on my experience, public Wi-Fi often imposes time limits on device connections. It's also possible that recent updates to the Wi-Fi network may have caused the smart device to disconnect. You may try to reconfigure the smart plug, see if that still works.
