  @SmearyThrower

Hi, thanks for the update.

I often used a Dual-WAN connection to represent WAN Aggregation/Load Balance as well as Link Backup/Failover(https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/652560). It seems to be causing confusion, and sorry for the inconvenience. The key point of these features is that Deco needs to support multiple WAN ports.

However, as you mentioned, tagging or fixing the WAN port, there is a workaround to use the backup 5G modem, instead of using "Hotspot Backup".

It would need some modification to the Deco APP, such as

  • Fix the port#1(which is connected to the primary ISP modem) as the WAN port
  • When the primary ISP went down, you might need to manually change the WAN port to port#2(which is connected to the 5G modem).
  • When the primary ISP works well, port#2 is almost in idle.

Theoretically, it works, but the network switch is not an automatic process.

Furthermore, Deco actually uses WAN/LAN auto-sensing. If we don't fix the WAN port, when the primary ISP goes down, it could also search for other available ISPs/modems. So there is a chance it might automatically switch to the 5G backup modem.

But this process adds more “casualties” than fixing the WAN Port. If the IP release time of the primary ISP modem is slower than the 5G backup modem, it would randomly switch to the 5G backup connection even though the primary ISP works well.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Why x50 v1.3 doesn't have this feature? This is stupid.
