Dear Team,

It has been 5 months since I purchased TP-Link WiFi Range Extender TL-WA850RE, and since the beginning I am am having frequent disconnection issues with the main router. (Every ~5 minutes).

I have tried to go through a lot of online resources to help with the issue, and I have checked the following -

1. RE light goes off on the extender when it loses connection. Rebooting router/extender resolves the issue temporarily (a few hours), and the issue starts happening again.

2. Range Extender is placed at an optimal location. I have tried placing it even just beside the router, still the issue persists.

3. The Extender only supports 2.4G configuration (single Band), hence Band Steering issues are not present.

4. I have checked main router for Band Steering/WiFi Optimization, and such options are not present.

5. I have updated the Range Extender to its latest firmware.

6. I have attached an image of the status page when the issue happens.

Kindly suggest what other settings in Extender/Router needs to be changed for proper functioning.

Please resolve the issue at the earliest.

Thanks,

Neelanshu

For all future viewers facing the same problem -

Kindly change your 2.4G Channel to Channel 11. That completely solved my problem!

Thanks!

Hi  @Neelanshu_1540

If you are experiencing intermittent wireless connection on the range extender, please refer to the following suggestions:
1. Confirm the extender is properly located based on place your wireless Range Extender for optimal reception and performance
2. Make sure the firmware on the extender is up-to-date.
3. Enable “High Speed” mode if you have a dual-band extender.
4. Disable Parental Control or Access Control (Blacklist/ Whitelist) on the host router if they have been enabled for the extender.
5. Turn off Band Steering (also called "Smart Connect" or "Whole-Home Wi-Fi") and set up different Wireless names for the router's 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wi-Fi.
6. Fix the wireless channels on the host router, such as channel 11 for 2.4GHz and channel 48 for 5GHz.
For more details, please refer to What if the Range Extender keeps losing connection?

If the issue persists, it may be a hardware problem. It is recommended that you consult local support for help: Contact Technical Support
