X50 PoE massive network instability - help much appreciated
Hello
I helped a friend install the network with the Topology shown below. I was virtually copying my own network, as I have the Deco X50s and they are working like a dream.
Unfortunately my friend is massively struggling and almost every day the decos can switch to red and then randomly start working again.
Initially we thought we had created a loop, but this is now the topology of the network. Some things seem to be performing better now, but the TV stopped connecting (even though it is connected by LAN into an 8 port switch).
Is this topology ok? Is there anything else I should be cautious or consider about the network or anything you think could be causing instability?
Also, his Network looks a lot different to mine, it is showing the satellite decos not connected by the ethernet back haul (living room is his main Deco).
Thanks in advance for any help :)

Thansk for the link.
So the network is more stable now, so thinking the topology is correct.
But the satellite decos have 1 as wifi connection and the other as ethernet for the backbone.
We changed the one on WiFi to a different ethernet cable and different port on the switch. Then that now shows as connected via ethernet backbone and the other satellite is now showing as WiFi, it's as if they swapped (but we changed nothing relating to the other satellite deco).
Any ideas what is happening and how to resolve?
Thank you

I am afraid you did not read carefully the forum topic I provided.
The problem is between Main Deco and Vimin 16 port PoE siwtch. The wired link between them is broken. All symptoms point to it.
You should check what is with that wired link.

Apologies, I did not not read that carefully,
Thanks for the advice, we will check the cables between the main deco and the switch and let you know.

We got it working using the ethernet back haul.
We switched the cables from the 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN port to the 1Gbps PoE port around, and now it is working.
There seems to be some instability on the network still, which we are not sure what could be causing that. But we are going to monitor over the next few days and see if things settle down.
Thanks for you help, a step forward :)

Unfortunately this issue seems to not be going away
Almost every day the internet drops out and the decos say "Unable to connect to the internet"
At the point when this happens it also switches to wireless communication between the decos, rather than ethernet Backhaul.
Any idea what is happening?
It is probably worth noting, our original router and modem was using the SSID VM6835339 with many clients connected. When setting up the Deco, we changed the original router into modem mode and have attached the main deco to the modem, we then used the same SSID so that all the clients could connect without having to add them to the new network again. I do wonder if this could cause some issues

This seem to be the different issue from original you had.
Next time it happens, power off Vimin switch that is connected to Main Deco and see if Main Deco will recover by itself, reconnecting to Internet. If it does, the issue is either with the switch or whatever connected to it.
This may not fix the problem but could at least narrow it down.
Also, please share Update Deco screenshot from your Deco app, example:

We had the internet drop again during the day:
Then we switched off the Vimin POE Switch. The Main deco recovered within a minute or so:
So I guess something that is plugged into the switch is causing the issues? Any advice or suggestions for what to try or what type of thing could cause the issue, that would be much appreciated.
Im just waiting for the picture of the update status of the decos....will send shortly.
Another point that might help, is when the deco goes down, the Alarm system takes a log of the event, so we can see exactly when the system goes down:
Thank you very much for your help so far, it is greatly appreciated.

Because the problem seem to go away from the Deco mesh itself, I can only give you general recommendations. Things I could have tried myself in your situation.
You have PoE switch, just in case power draw exceeds its budget I would (at least temporarily) use power supplies for Deco X50-PoE if they currently draw power from the switch. If not for all, at least for some of them.
I would also look at what could be connected to switch(es) that might confuse Main Deco during the brieft Internet interruption. The thing is, Main Deco uses WAN port autosensing. If Internet link drops briefly, Main Deco might decide that its LAN port (one connected to Vimin switch) is where ISP modem/router is. Main Deco will dedicate that port as WAN and that will cause an outage until Main Deco is restarted or disconnected from the switch. But, for that to happen something connecting with Ethernet cable to your home network must have ability to behave as router or as DHCP server.
You may need to disconnect hardwired devices from home network one by one to see which one is troublemaker. From the list you provided TV, Virgin TV box, Xbox, Security cameras should be fine to keep wired (if they are). These won't case such issues.
I am not very familiar with Philips Hue and Sonos Arc. I think Sonos might be a "bad guy" here. If you can have them connected wirelessly instead of wired (even just for troubleshooting) - please do that. If not, place Satellite Deco between them and the switch (move Satellite from another place if necessary, again, for troubleshooting).
If you have anything else connected to your home LAN you have not listed on your diagram, same approach applies: make it connect wirelessly, power off or connect through Satellite Deco - just to see if that device is what confuses Main Deco. The troublemaker is not going to be PC, laptop, printer, security camera.
Of course, worst case something is wrong with the switch itself, so if nothing helps to stabilize your home network consider replacing Vimin switch. It is 16-port, must be expensive, but what can you do. If it comes to this, get the switch from TP-Link brand and, ideally, a bit more expensive one that has LED lights at each of its ports that show link speed in addition to just link up/down status.
---------------
One more thing: emulate network outage by unplugging Ethernet cable that goes from Main Deco to ISP modem for a minute and plugging it back. If Main Deco can't recover until you unplug the switch, you have simple way (even if time consuming) to figure which device is troublemaker. Just power off suspects one by one and emulate network outage each time you power off the next device (power off device, unplug Ethernet cable between Main Deco and modem, plug it back, see if Main Deco recovers).
Eventually, you should have Main Deco recover on its own and that will tell you what device is troublemaker.
