Combining Wi-Fi and Ethernet with Deco M4
Hello forum members,
I am using the Deco M4 (6 units) to provide internet throughout my entire house, including the garage and an outbuilding.
The challenge lies in extending the network from the house to the garage, as there are reinforced concrete ceilings in between. To address this, I decided to run an Ethernet cable from the Deco in the attic to the Deco in the garage.
Now I am facing a problem:
The Deco in the attic has a moderate Wi-Fi connection to the main Deco.
The Deco in the garage has a very poor Wi-Fi connection to the network, which is why I use the Ethernet cable connection.
When I power up the Decos, the following happens repeatedly:
- The Deco in the attic does not connect to the mesh network via Wi-Fi (despite a good signal quality) but instead connects via Ethernet to the Deco in the garage.
- The Deco in the garage then does not connect to the Deco in the attic via Ethernet but instead uses the weak Wi-Fi signal.
Schematic:
Goal:
Internet --> Ethernet --> Router --> Ethernet --> Main Deco --> Wi-Fi (good signal) --> Deco Attic --> Ethernet (to avoid poor Wi-Fi) --> Deco Garage
Result: All Decos have a good connection.
Current Situation:
Internet --> Ethernet --> Router --> Ethernet --> Main Deco --> Wi-Fi (very weak signal) --> Deco Garage --> Ethernet (still poor, because the previous connection is weak) --> Deco Attic
Result: Both the attic and garage have poor network connections.
Currently, I can only achieve the desired setup by manually restarting the Decos one by one in sequence. This is very tedious, and sometimes the system reboots itself, reverting to the undesired setup.
Do you have any suggestions or solutions to stabilize the network?
Thank you!
