TP-LINK TD-W8951ND and D-LINK Dir-505

Region : Brazil
Model : TD-W8951ND
Hardware Version : V5
Firmware Version : 5.0.0 Build 120522 Rel.23978
ISP : Velox
I'm having a problem getting internet connection using the DIR-505 wireless extender. The DIR-505 has 3 modes: Router/AP, Repeater and Hotspot. First I tried to setup it as a repeater, didn't work. Then I tried to setup it as a Hotspot. Didn't work also. In the DIR-505 status page there is the information Network Status: Disconnected (in repeater mode). In Hotspot mode, my gateway adress is 0.0.0.0 (both repeater and hotspot).
So, I started to look at TD-W8951ND's Wireless and LAN config page. In LAN config page I see that the device is located by the DHPC, but the IP is 0.0.0.0. The thing is, I started to look at the Wireless page and I decided to disable the WPA. Then the DIR-505 connected to the TD-W8951ND. I'm trying to figure it out why I can't setup it with WPA or WEP (doesn't matter if TKIP or AES also), since the DIR-505 obviously supports WPA (WPA and WPA2), I've run out of ideas. I don't understand why the devices sets their IP with 0.0.0.0 when I use passwords. I don't want to leave my wireless open.

You mean you use DIR-505 repeater TD-W8951ND? And when TD-W8951ND's wireless network use WPA or WEP,DIR-505 can't connect to TD-W8951ND while DIR-505 can connect to 8951 with no security?

Check if the LAN IPs of your DIr and TP-link conflicted,if they are all 192.168.1.1,you can't get Internet access.

DIR-505 is a wireless extender ( http://www.dlink.com.br/produtos-detalhes/items/dir-505.html), similar to TL-WA850RE ( http://www.tp-link.com.br/products/details/?categoryid=1247&model=TL-WA850RE). The TD-W8951ND is my modem/router, i use the DIR-505 to get signal to areas of the house the TD-W8951ND can't provide. And yes, if I set a password to protect the network, the DIR-505 can't connect to my router. It shows in TD-W8951ND's DHCP table, but with a 0.0.0.0 IP.

Lee, the DIR-505 uses 192.168.0.1 as its default IP.
-----------------------------------------------------------
At least, that's what was happening. For some reason the DIR-505 and the TD-W8951ND decided that they should be working together with the password. Sincerely, I have no idea what the hell was going on :/

Well, maybe when the two devices are used together, something abnormal will happen.......but it's not common. You sitll can have following things confirmed.
1.Make sure you enter the correct password of TD-W8951ND's wireless network in DIR-505.
2.Also you can use your mobile phone or laptop connect TD-W8951ND via wifi with password, and confirm your mobile phone can get internet access. If you can access the Internet, then that means nothing is wrong with your TD-W8951ND,maybe you don't configurate your DIR-505 correctly or something with wrong with your DIR-505.Then you can contact D-link for some tech support...ask if your DIR-505 has some problem

Hi.. I am new to this forum.. Same with me as well. I tried connecting DIR-505 in repeater mode with WPA2.. Is there anyway to make this work. Should i change the security settings. All i see is the IP of my AP and DIR505 are not the same and its not allowing me to change it as well.
