I just got an Archer C7 v2.

Sadly, although I can connect fine on 5 GHz, it only uses 20 MHz channels (so max 217 Mbps) when connecting with my MacBookPro Late 2013, which is capable of 80 MHz channels and 1300 Mbps. With the router right next to the laptop, my transfers from a wired PC to the laptop are capped at 17 MB/s (the interface rate is 217 Mbps).

I have tried to put the 5GHz interface in Open mode (disabled security) and that didn't help.

I also tried the latest firmware released last month by TP-Link. I also flashed OpenWRT hoping that it's a driver issue, but OpenWRT did the same (and was reporting that the interface is using 20 MHz even though it was set to use 80 MHz channel via htmode=VHT80).

So the thing may be more stable than previous hardware or software versions, but I'm not happy being capped at 17 MB/s.

I was getting more with my old N router (Buffalo WZR-HP-AG300H)

I'm happy to say that I replicated the tests performed here: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=253118 and I obtained the same results on 11ac (5 GHz), that is 800+ Mbps. The router is pretty solid and fast!

The poor results quoted above are when I copy files using SMB from MacOSX. I still have found no way to make those faster! Any clues are welcome. TCP window is not a problem because I also tried a simple wget on MacOSX and is as fast as iperf (800+ Mbps).

5G Network always dropping, disabling, even after RMI of router

Hi all,
I also experienced the 5G Network issue with my TP AC1750. It seems to be a broader problem as I feared. I have now upgraded to the latest version for V2. I hope that the 5g keeps it connection. I am really disappointed with TP on this router especially. Even the 5g Wlan dongle had problems as the system would eject the device [loose connect usb?]. So far the ugliest experience with my first TP products. I will post on after my experience with the new firmware...this must fix the problem..:(

The WLAN dongle is also TP-LINK? Hope the latest firmware could solve the problem. Good luck...
If not, report it here, http://www.tp-link.com/en/Support/contact/.

Archer C7 problems

Hi guys I bought this Archer C7 last week.. I'm using the firmware version below (already update to latest)

Firmware Version: 3.15.1 Build 141204 Rel.39308n
Hardware Version: Archer C7 v1 00000000

When I try to ping the wireless router I noticed a spiky ping (dropouts) from 1ms to 250ms sometimes even 400ms...
I attached a screenshot for reference. When I'm playing an online game the latency randomly spikes, I tried both 5GHz and 2.4GHz.

Does v2 with the latest firmware really solve most of the critical problem posted in this thread?
I am planning to upgrade to gigabit ac wifi router, and so far, this C7 is one of the candidate.
Since this one is using qualcomm chipset, and my experience with qualcomm is quite good, especially in wireless section.

But somehow my current router, WR841HP is haunting me for the ARP delay problem.
It makes me afraid to purchase another tplink router, even though from several tplink routers i have encountered, only this WR841HP gives me nightmare.

Can anyone please do some simple testing (ping) between wifi client to check for any similiar ARP delay problem?
I want to confirm that this router doesn't suffer the same ARP delay as my current WR841HP.

To test it
1. Connect two device wirelessly, or at least one of them, the other through LAN port
2. Ping from either way, and check if there is ping delay before reply (can be as long as 5-20 seconds)
3. If no ping delay, wait for about 5 minutes (for the ARP cache to be cleared), and try ping again.
4. Repeat for at least 3 times (15 minutes), to check for consistency.

What I want to see is that the ping successful almost immediately (which is what it supposed to be), not RTO for several seconds.

Thanks in advance.

Edit : I finally buy it and test it myself. The ARP delay nightmare is gone. Even though the wifi range is not as wide as WR841HP, but other features cover it very well.
