First of all : happy new year!

The issue with " Clients are missing or display the wrong online/offline status and connection type." is still going on.

I am on app version 3.8.129 in iOS and use 3 DECO X50 EU v1.0 with latest firmware. I even have the privacy unfriendly "Client Identification" option turned on.

I am not the only one.

This issue is pretty serious and widespread. I can't see all of my clients, cause the status online/offline is not right. Many devices, also the ones without constantly changing MAC address, are not being remembered correctly. So, every now and then, for instance my TP-Link camera (which I renamed when installed) comes online with the default factory name, wihch is not recognisable for me. A have to figure out manually by IP-adress or MACadress which device is which device.

I find this unbelievable and absolutely not OK for a router app and hardware. This gives the user a false sense of security to say the least, and networks are nor maintainable anymore.

All the default suggestions I already tried:

- Reboot network

- Reset network

- Reboot devices

- Newest firmware

- Newest app

etc etc

When are these issues fixed? And I mean, that they work als they did for years , before it suddenly did not work anymore a year ago?

Regards

Jan

@JanRekenaar same problem since upgrading 2 days ago. My network now only is stable with one tplink deco x50 connected. Otherwise the network is unusable.  Looking to try and roll back the firmware

@Mark-McG I am sorry to hear that. This is an issue since version 1.41, I think 2 years already. It is reported by many users. It is spread over different deco types.

the weird thing is that Apple devices use dynamic MAC addresses for ages, and suddenly, from one moment in time, DECO cant recognise the devices anymore.

but it is not an dynamic mac issue alone, because other devices are also being missed and don't even show up in the cliënt list. They simply are offline when they are actually not.

Deco management in app is useless now. And the lack of proper solutions is annoying me. Big time.

I don't think you will have any luck. This has been a problem for a while now. I've turned the Client Identification off which seems to improve things, but anything I rename is eventually forgotten by the Deco system and reverts to the device's default. Turning on Client Identification just makes things a lot worse.

I am eagerly awating my Eero system to be delivered. As TP-link have been worse than useless in all of its firmware updates that seem to make things progressively worse the higher the version gets, I have given up. Unfortunately TP-Link are just a bunch of second-rate coders who can't release decent firmware to save their lives.

@SteveWex well, did you already Google on Eero?
I am apparantly not allowed to post eero links here but I strongly suggest you research "erro clients showing offline".

Thanks.

I did see this, but am also aware that Amazon offer a 30 days return policy (in Ireland). I am therefore going to trial the devices for this period before deciding whether or not to keep them.

Once bitten, twice shy, I won't be making the same mistake again.

@SteveWex Okay. What I mean is : all mesh wifi systems have issues with client identification so it seems. In Holland we have this saying it goes : “ the law of conservation of misery”. So a reduction of problems in one spot, is causing problems elsewhere in the closed circuit. 😀

Understood.

But what I've not been clear about is my complete dissatisfaction with Deco. If the client identification was the only issue I have with Deco, I could cope with that, but sadly its disappointed me in so many different ways, not least of which is the customer support, of which is at best sporadic, and at worst, completely non-existent.

Then there is the firmware updates which make the products worse each time they release another one.

We have a saying too: Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me. (Everyone gets one chance to correct, but not twice.....or three.....four.....five.....)

@SteveWex I agree with you. Lets hope support of the other big names is better. I did some research on Asus and Netgear and problems there were even worse in terms of disconnects of mesh units and constant bad performance. In that case deco is better. But I agree, TP-Link is - dispite of its efforts - a bit of a disappointment in the Mesh Wifi scene.

The major disappointment for me was Apple ceasing production of their Airport Extreme and Time Capsule series. They linked not unlike Mesh, but years ago before it was a thing. I had three working like Mesh and Time Capsules were basically Airport Extremes with a 1/2/3tb Hard Drive for local storage and backup which was very useful. they even had a USB port for more hard drives or printers.

If Apple made Wifi 6 Airports, I would not even be here!

I miss my Apple Airports. sad

@SteveWex It’s a pitty Apple stopped production of those. They left the Router Market alone. It could have been a better world if Apple put some serious effort in Mesh Wifi.
