Hi, just bought a TD-W8980 wireless router.

Trying to set it up using my Mac (I don't have access to windows or Linux), got the internet working, just trying to set up the printer and external hard drive I've attached to the two usb ports on the router. Can't get either to work!

EHD: I followed the instructions here... http://www.tplink.com/app/usb/download/how%20to%20use%20local%20storage%20sharing.pdf
Nothing worked...

'There was a problem connecting to the server “192.168.1.1”.
There are no shares available or you are not allowed to access them on the server. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem.’

I have tried the following:
smb://tplinklogin.net
smb://192.168.1.1
smb://192.168.1.1/
smb:192.168.1.1/volume

and encounter the same message each time.

Any ideas there? It's a WD mybook 500gb EHD, works perfectly, and all its lights are on and looking good.

Printer: I followed the instructions here... http://www.tplink.com/app/usb/download/How%20to%20Use%20Print%20Server%20Feature.pdf
The software won't even open. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and it just won't open, crashes as soon as I click on the icon.

I downloaded the software from here... http://uk.tp-link.com/support/download/?pcid=203&model=TD-W8980&version=V1

I have no idea how to sort either of these issues so help is greatly appreciated otherwise I'm gonna have to send it back!

Cheers,

mbckenny

Is the disk formatted for PC or Mac? If it is formatted for a Mac (HFS+) the modem will not mount it.

are you using the username/password admin/admin?

I know this is an old thread but when I searched the web this was the only thread that had a similar problem. I came to 2 conclusions either the drive needs external power because the router doesn't supply enough, or the address should be "smb://tplinklogin.net/volume1"

In my case I had to fix both.
