DDNS not renewed, TP-Link ID not "remembered"

Hi!
I've set up my GE800 to use DDNS with tplinkdns.com after signing in with a TP-Link ID.
I've found that every time my router gets disconnected from the internet (due to a provider issue) or rebooted (I've scheduled a weekly reboot), the DDNS is not renewed.
It looks like my router doesn't "remember" my TP-Link ID.
I need to log in to the router's web page, then go to the TP-Link ID, sign in, wait, and then the DDNS is updated.
Am I doing something wrong?
PS: my router is always "reachable" from the Tether app, even if I'm not logged in with my TP-Link ID on the router's web page.

Hi@dg1974it,
Thank you for reporting your issue to community.
May I know, is your network topology like this: ISP modem—router)))((( client devices
(Note: — stands for wired connection,)))((( stands for wireless connection)
Here are some tips for you if you are having trouble accessing the local server remotely via DDNS:
1) Make sure the Port Forwarding settings are configured properly, make sure you are able to access the local server via the current public IP address of the Router.
2) Use "nslookup your_ddns_name" or "dig your_ddns_name" on Windows/Mac OS to verify if the DDNS is working properly.
3) For detailed troubleshooting, please refer to this FAQ: General Troubleshooting For DDNS.
If the issue persists even when all settings are correct, please provide us with the following details:
1) Detailed network topology and whether your TP-Link Router WAN IP is a public IP address;
2) Screenshots of current port forwarding rules and the DDNS settings page;
3) Whether you are able to access the local servers remotely via public IP address.

Thanks for your reply.
I have an FTTH connection. The fiber is connected to an ONT, which is then connected to the WAN combo port of the GE800. The GE800 handles the internet connection via PPPoE. I'm not using any ISP-provided modem/router (I bought the ONT on eBay; the ISP gave me their router, but it was junk, so I discarded it).
In the past, I used services like No-IP without any issues, but I don't want to deal with the monthly "keep alive" checks. When I switched from my previous router (an Asus GT-AX6000, which supported DoH) to the GE800 (which doesn't), I needed a way to continue using my custom DNS provider, Control-D.
The only way to do that is by using "legacy mode," which requires me to authorize my (dynamic) IP via a DDNS provider. I initially thought the built-in option would be great and easy to use, but it's proven unreliable.
I don’t need to access my IP remotely—I just need my current IP to be registered as an endpoint in Control-D. And since the GE800 lacks native DoH/DoT support, I need a reliable DDNS provider to keep my IP updated.
And for some reason, the IP is updated only when I login to the router web page and then I need to enter my TP-Link ID credentials every time because they aren't saved.

Hi@dg1974it,
Thank you for your continued support. Our dynamic DNS service currently requires regular update mechanisms to verify user activity status, and we are temporarily unable to disable this feature. Similar to No-IP’s monthly renewal reminder ‘keep alive’, this serves as a health check to ensure optimal resource allocation across our network.
While we understand this may cause minor inconvenience, this mechanism effectively distinguishes active users from dormant accounts. This allows us to guarantee more stable connection quality and premium network resources for all regularly engaged users. The practice not only maintains overall server cluster health but also creates better experiences for committed service users.
Our engineering team will continue improving service quality. Should more flexible solutions become available in the future, we will promptly notify you. We sincerely appreciate your understanding as we work together to build a sustainable DDNS service ecosystem for all users.

hi Joseph.
this cannot be marked as a "solution".
it's a nonsense.
are you saying that my expensive router "forgets" my TP-Link ID "by design"? and that I have to keep logging in as much as possible in order to "trigger" the DDNS?
isn't this nuts?
at least, with No-IP I have a grace period of a month and in that month the DDNS works ALWAYS, after every reboot or IP change.
this is NOT happening with the GE800 and tplinkdns.com!
so, is there a bug? is there something I am doing wrong?
it's impossibile that I HAVE to login repeatedly with my TP-Link ID in order to update the DDNS with the actual IP!!!!
I cannot track WHEN the IP changes! that's the purpose of a DDNS!!!!!
PS: I just ditched tplinkdns.com and reverted to No-IP. hope at least this will work with the GE800.
PPS: after the weekly reboot, No-IP has been updated automatically, so at least this DDNS works "as intended".
