Hi everyone, hope you're doing well!

I recently purchased a DECO S7 AC1900 kit with three units for my office. I set them up in Access Point mode, using two units connected via Ethernet cable and the third one via Wi-Fi (wireless backhaul).

However, after configuration, the Deco app shows that all units are communicating via Wi-Fi only, even the ones connected by cable.

Here’s the current setup:

  • The Decos are connected to a 24-port Layer 2 unmanaged switch;

  • The switch receives internet from my ISP’s modem/router;

  • All Ethernet cables were tested and are working fine;

  • The system is properly configured in Access Point mode.

As a test, I brought the Decos home and connected them directly to my ISP router (which has 4 LAN ports). It worked perfectly — the Deco app showed that the units were using wired backhaul.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Could it be a limitation of the unmanaged switch? Is there any additional configuration required to make the wired backhaul work properly?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

This situation usually means networking switch does not support Deco Ethernet backhaul protocol. Check the following TP-Link FAQ document, it may provide more information on that topic: General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco
