I have a WD 6Tb My Book which I purchased to use as a Network Drive.

However when I connect the drive to the USB 3.0 port (it only hase a USB 3.0 connector), it doesnt allocate an IP address and therefore cant bee seen by PCs on the network.

Am I misunderstanding the purpose of the USB 3.0 connector on the router or am I missing something?

Why do you want an IP address? It has the IP address of the router...

Not sure I follow you.

How do I access the drive via the router from a Windows 8.1 PC? And the D9 doesnt seem to have any facilities to share what is connected via a USB port. Do you physically connect it to the PC, share the drive and then reconnect back on the router?

No, your router has an advanced menu allowing you to set exactly what you want to share on the USB port...
