Enabling QoS (to mitigate bufferbloat) increases loaded latency
Hi there.
I had been using the Archer C6|AC1200 router for the past 2-3 years and have been very happy with it's ability to mitigate bufferbloat using QoS.
My internet connection is 100Mbps, dedicated download and upload (more accurately, a stable download/upload of 105Mbps/115Mbps)
Recently I had purchased an Archer BE400|BE6500 to improve Wi-Fi coverage and handle more devices.
When I ran speedtests with QoS off, the results between the two routers were similar. But when I ran speedtests with QoS on, the BE400 produced horrible results.
On Archer C6:
[Wired] [Internet Port Negotiation Speed: 1000MF]
On speedtest:
- without QoS:
[bandwidth: download: ~105Mbps / upload: ~115Mbps]
[ping: unloaded: 5ms / download+loaded: ~70ms / upload+loaded: 5ms]
+ with QoS, download and upload set to 104Mbps:
[bandwidth: download: ~92Mbps / upload: ~92Mbps]
[ping: unloaded: 5ms / download+loaded: 5ms / upload+loaded: 5ms]
On waveform:
- without QoS: BUFFERBLOAT GRADE: B
+ with QoS, download and upload set to 104Mbps: BUFFERBLOAT GRADE: A+
On Archer BE400:
[Wired] [Internet Port Negotiation Speed: 1000MF]
On speedtest:
- without QoS:
[bandwidth: download: ~105Mbps / upload: ~115Mbps]
[ping: unloaded: 5ms / download+loaded: ~75ms / upload+loaded: 5ms]
+ with QoS, download and upload set to 104Mbps:
[bandwidth: download: ~97Mbps / upload: ~97Mbps]
[ping: unloaded: 5ms / download loaded: 200-400ms / upload loaded: 300-600ms]
On waveform:
- without QoS: BUFFERBLOAT GRADE: B
+ with QoS, download and upload set to 104Mbps: BUFFERBLOAT GRADE: F
I am completely lost as I was expecting similar results to the C6 on the BE400 considering that the BE400 is newer and 3.5 times the price of a C6 in my location.
I would like to know the possible solutions or suggestions on how to mitigate bufferbloat (reduce loaded latencies similar to C6) on the BE400 V1 router.
Thanks
